But how do we holistically develop ourselves with creation? There has been a significant focus on self-development and growth over the last decades, but these modern approaches focus on the isolated wants of the individual. While this can effectively align the individual towards their desires, it does little to support the growth of self within the greater systems of life. 

Human beings are made by culture.

From an indigenous perspective, growing oneself in relationship to the individual, the community, and nature was paramount to the village's survival. Supporting the activation of an individual was a community process.  The gifts one holds, when fully activated, are applied into the greater context of family, community, nature, and spirit - in doing so, we all can thrive.

The modern approach to growth of a human being is distorted away from developing individual gifts and more about indoctrination into a societal system that only focuses on the values the leadership dictates as valid.  

Personal growth from a more connected perspective requires deep connective relationships to be established; in doing so, one can know oneself fully through those connections.
